Jenn Crawford, LM, CPM,CLC

Mother of 5 beautiful daughters, and “Mimi” to the most precious grand baby she had the honor of “catching” at home. Born and raised in San Diego, CA and before moving to Dallas in 2019 she lived in Joshua Tree for 12 years. She moved to Waxahachie for a few years but knew her heart belonged back in Old East Dallas. When not at a birth she’s spending time with her family, sleeping in, teaching student midwives and researching everything birth with Elizabeth! Sundays are her favorite attending services at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, finding a new brunch spot with her family and strolling the Dallas farmers market! She loves traveling anywhere with a tropical beach and taking cruises to the Caribbean.

“My own births were all different and special in their own ways. I personally had a healthy mix of OB and midwifery care. With low risk and high risk pregnancies. Midwifery wasn’t a childhood dream although I know my own mother being a family birth RN helped spark that interest. Especially being apart of my sisters birth at 5… even if I was escorted out after proudly announcing what I was visualizing. Most would be surprised to learn I still have a needle phobia when it comes to my own healthcare and the sight of blood even as a teen sent me running the other way. It was my own births that brought me down this path. As a believer, I know God was always guiding me to be the midwife I am today. My journey to being a licensed midwife was long and hard, that has inspired me to assist student midwives in their journey. I had the opportunity of apprenticing in Tijuana, Mexico in my early years. One of my first primary catches was a home birth where I was wearing my then toddler on my back. Still surreal as feel as though I blinked and that toddler became an incredible mother, trusting me to catch her own son.

I am continuously humbled as midwife, every client teaches me something new. Midwifery care to me has always been about a trusting relationship and shared decision making. My clients trust my recommendations based off evidence and experience. I trust their decisions, even when different than mine. This is their body, their baby and their birthing experience. I love getting to know not just them but their family and even their parenting styles, it’s so much more than birth. As midwives we all love when Dad or even an older sibling wants to help catch but honestly my favorite is when my client catches her baby. Absolutely magical!

I am often asked how many births I have attended. I stopped counting at 700. One of these days I plan to write them all in a keepsake name/date journal, so I can look back when I retire. Elizabeth has an incredible spreadsheet with her numbers including average birth weights, length of labor, etc. An inspirational goal project set for 2025!”
